As a filmmaker who makes music, I looked long and hard for a desk that was big, sturdy, and versatile. Options were limited without breaking the bank and this is especially true for desks that have a sliding shelf so I decided to design one piece by piece.

Starting with the frame, I selected the Apex Pro from Deskhaus which is a motorized sit-stand model with a 600 lb load capacity. For the tabletop, I selected a 6 ft x 30-in x 1.5-in Butcher Block made of Acacia wood. It was already stained in Ebony so I simply added a few coats of poly. The most challenging part was figuring out the shelf because it needed to be able to support a Kawai VPC-1 which is a $2500 Midi keyboard that I didn't want to drop. The keys are fully-weighted and made of real wood so it weighs 65 lbs with bulky dimensions. For this, I designed custom supports using steel fittings and iron pipe which I had cut at Lowe's. Finally, I added some custom LED lighting and casters for when I need to eventually move this thing.

This thing is a tank. It easily supports all the gear with zero shake.
